Castle Park Bandstand

Updated: Jan 4

Castle Park Bandstand

The magnificent bandstand in Castle Park was erected just after the park opened in 1892. It was specifically designed by Walter MacFarlane and Co of Glasgow to allow concerts by full military bands from Colchester Garrison. The original ornamental balustrade is believed to have been removed for scrap iron during the Second World War. Walter MacFarlane and Co closed in 1965, but using their original designs, the balustrade was replaced in 2002-2003. In 2022 the bandstand was completely restored for the Platinum Jubilee of the late Queen Elizabeth II. It is used for concerts, traditional and modern, throughout the summer.
