The Ramparts and the back of the Castle

This is a view of the Castle which is not often noticed. We are looking south from in front of the bandstand in Castle Park at the north rampart with the Castle beyond. In the past, the rampart would have had a curtain wall on top of it as well as the ditch in front so it was a formidable defence against unwelcome visitors.
