I offer the following tours which can be booked at a time and date convenient to you, often at short notice:

 

Colchester – The Oldest and Newest City
A 120 minutes* walking tour through Colchester’s historic city centre seeing places and hearing stories that cover 2000 years of history!

Join me for a guided walk through the history of Colchester, Britain's oldest and newest city. I will tell you stories that include tales of Celts, Romans, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, the Wool trade, the Civil War, the Georgians, the Victorians, the last century and right up to the present. We will see some of the places where they lived, worked, fought, worshiped and were entertained over the last 2000 years. The tour includes special access to Colchester's Roman Theatre**.

A Roman Roam Through Colchester
A 80 minutes* specialist walking tour to see the buildings, structures and places that formed part of Britain’s first city and capital, many of which are hidden in plain sight, and to hear their remarkable stories. The tour includes special access to Colchester's Roman Theatre**. At the end of the tour I can offer an option to visit an extra site outside of the city centre and then go to the Roman Circus Centre where I can arrange a discounted entry for you to be given a tour of the Centre and part of the Circus track by one of their guides. I will then accompany you back to the city centre. This takes an additional 75 minutes.*

Colchester Churches
A 120 minutes specialist walking tour of the many historic churches and former churches in the city centre and learn of their history and some famous people associated with them. (Please note the walk does not enter the interior of any of the churches or former churches.)
 

How to read a house
A 120 minutes* tour to discover how much you can lean from a house just by looking at it.

Tour Information

All tours are £10 per person***. Contactless payment or cash is accepted. Gratuities are always welcome but not expected.

 

Subject to my availability I can arrange a tour on a time and date to suit you, either on a weekend or on a week day, usually at short notice.****

Hybrid Tours

 

I can also arrange a hybrid tour which comes parts of the above tours. The price, duration and content of the tour can be agreed between us.​

Please note:

None of my tours are suitable for children under the age of 10 years.

All of the tours apart from the "How to read a house" tour spend some time in parks where dogs, other than assistance dogs, are not permitted. If you wish to bring a dog please let me know and I can offer shorter versions of the tours leaving out the park.
